Hyphen Boy says:
"Those of you who do not hang out with Canadians might be unfamiliar with the term Toque (pronounced "tuke"), which refers to a warm, woolen, ribbed hat. I found myself at odds with more traditional ribbed hats because my ears were never warm enough. Plus, I get aggravated when the hat does not fold over at the same spot. Thus, I set about designing a hat that would, in fact, keep my ears warm. To keep the ears warm, I decided the hat should fold over not just once but twice, giving two extra layers of ribbing for a total of three layers of wool! With three layers, the toque is triple-warm, hence the name."
